The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued a detailed emergency medical services (EMS) checklist for Ebola preparedness, as well as interim guidance for EMS and 911 Public Safety Answering Points for management of patients with known or suspected Ebola virus in the United States.
Links to both of these issuances from the CDC are provided below. There is a lot of information contained in these briefs. We encourage everyone to read them thoroughly.
Detailed EMS Checklist for Ebola Preparedness
Contained within the CDC EMS checklist for Ebola preparedness is a listing of PPE supplies suitable for standard, contact, and droplet precautions. These include:
- Fluid resistant or impermeable gowns
- Gloves
- Other infection control supplies (e.g. hand hygiene supplies)
- Shoe covers, boots, and booties, and
- Appropriate combination of the following:
- Eye protection (face shield or goggles)
- Facemasks (goggles or face shield must be worn with facemasks)
- N95 respirators (for use during aerosol-generating procedures)
