I purchased this trainer because I wanted my students to have experience working with a variety of AED trainers. In order for this trainer to progress through the scenario, the manikin MUST have their metal tape across the manikin's chest where the pads get placed. Real victims don't have tape across their chest to help identify pad placement so I don't want the manikins to either. You can place the metal strip on the interior of the manikins also but then I need to remember which manikins have the metal strips on them for use with this AED trainer.
The other problem with this trainer I have is that the pads don't adhere very well (even brand new ones). Again, the trainer won't progress through the scenario because the pads aren't adhering so students have to push down hard on the pads and sometimes hold the pads to the manikin to make the trainer progress through the scenario. It makes it difficult when the trainer says not to touch the victim but the student has to hold the pads down to keep the scenario going.

The previous review correctly identifies some of the application considerations when using this trainer. However, evaluations of make/model specific AED trainers should be in perspective of learning goals and objectives, and the trainer’s intended use.
A significant part of our CPR and AED training focuses on -in accordance with AHA recommendations- provide training for responder teams with the AED that they will be using in the environment in which they serve as designated responders.
The selection of a trainer, then, is driven by that organizations selected AED.
To this end, we currently use 4 types of trainers reflecting the 4 most commonly placed AEDs in our service area.
Our instructors feel that the use of the manikin adaptors enhance the value of the training experience as a most frequent rescue problem is improperly placed pads, or, pad gels that are compromised by placement and replacement.
This trainer, then, satisfactorily performs in accord with its intended use.
On a final note . . . providing training that will apply to multiple brands requires a well-considered and designed generic trainer. The few that are on the market, at considerably less cost, do not seem to endure continued, frequent class room use. The Philips FR2 trainers - of which we have several - are most representative of general or generic AED faceplates and operation . . . and are extremely durable. Though the FR2 is no longer manufactured, the trainer is readily available.
