LIDOCAINE (Xylocaine®) causes loss of feeling in the skin and surrounding tissues. It can numb the skin and mucus membranes before procedures. Lidocaine jelly is applied to skin or mucous membranes before produres to numb the area by a health care professional. Lidocaine jelly may be applied using finger tips or cotton swabs. Follow the directions on the prescription label.
